Rolling mill electrical & automation

From the reheating furnace to bundle discharge, one team delivers the power, drive and automation systems of the mill. We build and test the panels in our own facility and commission them on site, in greenfield plants, revamps and lines where stands are added.

Mill types

Bar and rebar

Continuous mills with flying crop and dividing shears, cooling bed and bundling. Delivered on 8–32 mm rebar mills.

Wire rod

We can supply electrical and automation for wire rod mills. We have no completed reference in this area yet, and define the scope with you per project.

Sections

Light and medium section mills with reversing stand, cooling bed, straightener, cold saw, stacking and strapping. Delivered on 40–160 mm and 80–300 mm mills.

Reheating furnace burners

01Reheating furnace

We deliver burner control and motion automation for the furnace that brings billets to rolling temperature, together with the mill automation. Pusher, walking beam and walking hearth furnaces, from 4 m to 12 m.

02Roughing mill

The largest drives of the line sit in the roughing group. We control the main motor drives, stand settings and the crop shear.

Our scope

  • Main drive panels: DC drives (800–5,000 A) and AC drives
  • Reversing stand control (section mills)
  • Flying crop shear
  • Roller tables and stand auxiliary motions

03Intermediate mill

The bar must move between stands without being pulled or piling up. We commission the speed cascade control that links stand speeds, and the loopers.

Our scope

  • Speed cascade control
  • Looper control
Hot bars running through rolling stands

04Finishing mill

Size and speed are most critical in the finishing group. We control the finishing stand drives and the dividing shear that cuts bars to cooling bed length.

Our scope

  • Finishing stand drives and speed cascade
  • Flying dividing shear
Bars on a cooling bed

05Cooling bed

We automate the braking and entry system that places divided bars on the cooling bed, the bed motion and the exit transfer. On section mills, turn-up and turn-over systems are also in scope.

Section straightening machine

06Finishing line

At the end of a section mill come straightening and cutting to length. We also deliver straightener automation as a stand-alone scope; on straighteners for 80–300 mm sections in Türkiye (with axial adjustment) and Poland.

Our scope

  • Straightener automation (axial and roll adjustment)
  • Cold saw
Robots stacking long sections

07Stacking and bundling

At the end of the line, bars are counted, stacked and strapped. We automate stacking and strapping machines and, in robotic solutions, run KUKA robots and the Siemens PLC as one system. In 2018 we commissioned a robotic straightening and packaging unit where 4 KUKA robots stack sections up to 18 m.

Project types

Greenfield, revamp or a single area

Greenfield

Full electrical and automation scope from furnace to bundling. Example: a 12 m walking beam furnace and an 18-stand mill in Iraq.

Revamp and capacity increase

Adding stands or shears, replacing legacy DC systems. Examples: 12 → 18 stands in Georgia, 18 → 21 stands in Türkiye.

Area renewal

A straightener, shear or single stand group renewed and integrated with the existing system.
